What Is a Meta Tag Generator?

Short answer
A meta tag generator is a tool that writes the HTML meta tags for a web page. You fill in your title, description and share image, and it creates the correct tags for Google and social networks, ready to paste into the head of your page.

Meta tags control how your page looks in Google and when it is shared on Facebook, X or LinkedIn. Writing them by hand means remembering the right names, like og:image and twitter:card, and the right lengths. The generator does it for you and shows live previews, so you can see the result before you publish.

Quick facts
> how --to

How to Use the Meta Tags Generator

Create your meta tags in about two minutes.
01

Write your title

Put the main keyword first and keep it under about 600 pixels.
02

Write your description

Summarize the page in 120 to 160 characters with a call to action.
03

Set the URL and robots

Add the canonical URL and choose index or noindex.
04

Add your share image

Use a 1200 x 630 px image for Facebook, X and LinkedIn.
05

Copy the code

Check the previews, then copy the HTML into your page head or SEO plugin.

Where to paste the tags

  • HTML site: paste inside the <head> of the page.
  • WordPress: use the title, description and social fields in Yoast or Rank Math instead of pasting code.
  • Shopify: use the “Search engine listing” box on each page or product.
  • Do not add the same tag twice. Duplicate tags confuse search engines.

How the Meta Tags Generator Works

Here is how the generator builds your tags.
  1. 01

    You fill in the form

Title, description, URL, image and robots settings, split into SEO and Social tabs.

    In your browser
  2. 02

Title and description are measured in pixels with Google's fonts as you type.

    In your browser
  3. 03

    Social tags are filled

Open Graph and X tags reuse your SEO title and description unless you write custom ones.

    In your browser
  4. 04

    Text is made safe

Quotes and special characters are escaped so the HTML does not break.

    In your browser
  5. 05

    Clean HTML is built

Tags are written in a clear order with live previews for every platform.

    In your browser
  • Titles are checked against about 600 px (20 px Arial) and descriptions against about 920 px (14 px Arial).
  • Open Graph needs og:title, og:type, og:image and og:url to be complete.
  • Characters like ” and & are escaped, so they cannot end a tag early.
  • URLs in canonical and og:url should be absolute, including https://.

Rules the Generator Follows

Accuracy in plain words

The code is exact for what you enter. The previews are close guides: Facebook, X and LinkedIn can change their layouts, and Google may rewrite titles and descriptions.
