What Is an Open Graph Checker?

Short answer
An Open Graph checker is a tool that reads the Open Graph (OG) and X card tags on a page and shows how its link will look when shared on social media. It checks the title, description and image, and tells you what is missing or wrong so your shares look clean and get more clicks.

When someone shares your link, platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn and WhatsApp read your og:title, og:description and og:image tags to build the preview card. If the tags are missing, they guess, often with the wrong image or a cut-off title. This checker shows the preview for each platform side by side and checks that your share image is big enough and the right shape.

Image Rules We Check

Share images are the biggest reason cards look bad.
  • Best: 1200 x 630 px or larger, ratio 1.91:1.
  • OK: at least 600 x 315 px. Smaller images may show as a thumbnail.
  • Ratio: very tall or square images get cropped on most platforms.
  • The image URL must be public and return an image file.

Is the Open Graph Checker Accurate?

Yes for the tags and image size, which are read exactly from your live page. The previews are close copies of each platform’s card, which can change their design at any time.

Accuracy in plain words

Platforms cache previews. If you shared a link before fixing the tags, the old card may still show until you refresh it with the platform’s own debugger tool.

Keep in mind
Good OG tags make your link look right, but each platform decides how to show it.

Open Graph Checker FAQ

Quick answers to the questions people ask most about this tool.

What is Open Graph?

Open Graph is a set of meta tags that tells social networks what title, text and image to show when a page is shared.

Is this Open Graph checker free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up.

What is the best og:image size?

1200 x 630 pixels, with a 1.91:1 ratio. It looks sharp on Facebook, LinkedIn and X.

Why does Facebook show the wrong image?

Usually because og:image is missing, too small, or Facebook cached an old version. Fix the tag, then refresh the link in the Facebook Sharing Debugger.

Does X use Open Graph tags?

Yes. X reads its own twitter: tags first and falls back to Open Graph tags. Add twitter:card to choose the card style.

Do Open Graph tags help SEO?

Not directly, but better share cards bring more clicks and traffic from social media.

How do I add Open Graph tags in WordPress?

Use the social tab in an SEO plugin like Yoast or Rank Math, or copy the ready-made tags from this tool into your theme.
