What Is an HTTP Status Checker?

Short answer
An HTTP status checker is a tool that tells you the status code a server returns for a URL, like 200 OK, 301 Moved Permanently or 404 Not Found. A bulk checker tests many URLs at once, so you can quickly find broken pages and redirects across a list.

Status codes tell search engines what to do with a URL. A 200 means index it, a 301 means it moved, and a 404 means it is gone. After a site move, a redesign or a cleanup, checking a list of URLs is the fastest way to make sure old links redirect properly and important pages still work.

Accuracy in plain words

Servers can answer differently to bots, by country or under load. A 403 or 429 can mean the site is blocking automated checks. Re-check odd results in your browser.

Keep in mind
A 200 code means the page loads. It does not mean the page is indexable. Check for noindex with our Meta Tags Analyzer.

HTTP Status Checker FAQ

Quick answers to the questions people ask most about this tool.

What is an HTTP status code?

It is a three-digit number a server sends back to say if a request worked. For example, 200 means OK and 404 means not found.

Is this HTTP status checker free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up.

How many URLs can I check?

Up to 100 URLs in one check.

What is the difference between 301 and 302?

A 301 means the page moved for good and passes its value to the new URL. A 302 means a temporary move, so Google may keep the old URL.

Is a 404 bad for SEO?

A 404 is normal for pages that no longer exist. It becomes a problem when important pages or pages with backlinks return 404. Redirect those to a matching page.

Should I use 404 or 410?

Both tell Google a page is gone. 410 says it was removed on purpose and may be dropped a little faster.

Can I export the results?

Yes. Download all results as a CSV file.
