What Is a Google Entity Checker?

Short answer
A Google entity checker is a tool that searches Google’s Knowledge Graph to see if Google knows a brand, person, place or thing as an “entity”. If it does, the tool shows the entity’s type, short description, Wikipedia link, official website and unique Knowledge Graph ID.

Google uses entities to understand the world beyond keywords. When your brand is a known entity, Google can connect facts about it, show a knowledge panel and better understand mentions of you across the web. AI search tools also lean on known entities. Checking your entity status is a key step for brand SEO and E-E-A-T.

What "Known Entity" Means Here

How the tool decides.

If the Knowledge Graph Search API returns an entity with the same name you entered, the tool says Google knows it. If not, it shows the closest results.

The public API only covers part of Google’s full Knowledge Graph. A brand can still have a knowledge panel or be understood by Google even if it does not show here.

Is the Google Entity Checker Accurate?

The data is exactly what Google’s Knowledge Graph Search API returns. But the public API shows only part of the Knowledge Graph, so “not found” does not always mean Google does not know you.

Accuracy in plain words

Google updates the Knowledge Graph often, and the public API can lag behind what you see in search. Use this tool as a quick check, and look for a knowledge panel in Google too.

Keep in mind
Being a known entity helps Google understand your brand, but it is not a ranking boost on its own.

Google Entity Checker FAQ

Quick answers to the questions people ask most about this tool.

What is a Google entity?

An entity is a person, place, company or thing that Google knows as a distinct item in its Knowledge Graph, with its own facts and ID.

Is this Google entity checker free?

Yes. It is 100% free, with no sign-up.

How do I get my brand into the Knowledge Graph?

Use consistent details everywhere, add Organization schema with sameAs links, get mentioned on trusted sites, and create profiles on sources like Wikidata where it fits.

Why is my brand not found?

Your brand may not be a known entity yet, or the public API may not show it. Check Google for a knowledge panel too.

What is a Knowledge Graph ID?

It is a unique code Google gives each entity, like /g/11abc or /m/0abc. You can use it in schema with sameAs.

Does being an entity help SEO?

It helps Google understand your brand and connect facts about you, which supports trust. It is not a direct ranking boost.

Is this the same as a knowledge panel?

No. A knowledge panel is the box shown in search. This tool checks the Knowledge Graph data behind it.
